Is there a way to add a user defined arrow to the dimension dialog, so that it is always available.
    Thanks for any guidance.

You can make your own custom arrows - but why?

I have a user that has a custom arrowhead that he has made, and wants to add it to the dimension style dialog so that it is always there. This is an arrow that he will be using frequently.

  4. Here's our reason for using a custom (user) dimension arrowhead:

We like a closed-filled arrow, but AutoCAD's version is kind of long and
skinny. We want a short-ish arrowhead so that it will less frequently kick
the text outside the extension lines. But when we set AutoCAD's
closed-filled small to minimize that, its narrowness makes it almost
invisible (its wide end barely shows up as any wider than the dimension line
that comes up to it). So we made ourselves a closed-filled arrowhead that's
proportionally wider, so that we can make it shorter lengthwise, but still
clearly visible, and keep more dimension text between the extension lines.

As for the original question from "ecable": We have our Setup routine
insert that arrowhead block into the drawing and then immediately erase it,
and then assign that as the arrowhead in our standard dimension style
family. Then it's in the DDIM arrowhead list under the user option. That
approach dates way, way, way back, so there may be a better way to do it in
    later versions.

and especially troublesome since it now ignores pen weight settings
(2004+?), behaving much like a true type font.

they tend to disappear with heavier pen weights, since the line part of the
leader does not share the same constraint as the arrowhead.

personally, i consider this a bug.

You can also make the arrowhead 8-10 times larger then tell Autocad
dimensions that the arrowhead size to use is 8-10 times smaller than you
want. That way it still comes out to the desired size but fools Autocad
into thinking there is more room for text.

  7. That's a way to get more space for the text, though it risks sometimes
having the text overlap the arrowhead. A "safer" way to maximize text space
without risking overlap would be to set DIMGAP to zero.

I'll try that too. Current Dimgap setting is .02. I use ticks so has been
a long time (R9) since I have had a need to use arrowheads.
