35MB skf files - arrrgghhhh!

  1. Can anybodyhelp me with this problem - somehow I have ended up with some of
my AS files being up to 35MB in size!
They take forever (5mins or more) to open and when I copy and paste
*anything* - even one line from this drawing to a new blank drawing the copy
to clipboard of the entity can take up to 10mins and eats up *all* my RAM,
even going to page filing and I have 1GB of RAM available...
If I open these huge skf files in wordpad the drawing description seems to
be OK until it gets towards the end and starts describing the symbols and
locations of such then I get line after line of references to other drawings
and various bmp images saved within them.

The amount of line after line of these refs goes on for ever - it takes up
to 10mins to scroll down to the bottom of the lines.
If I select and delete these references to symbols and bitmaps then save the
file I then find the file cannot be opened by AS - it just says 'unknown
    file format'

I remember posting something about this some months back in an effort to try
and help someone else who had similar problems. I mentioned that I moved my
files to another directory with less folder depth and it seemed to fix the
problem but this time I haven't been able to fix this problem at all...

Any clues would be welcome. If I can't fix this problem it means having to
redraw a lot of layouts as I can no longer 'copy/paste' from one existing
    layout to another.

    Thanks guys (and Harvey!)

PS I hope you all have a great Christmas and a New Year free of Autosketch
    problems! :)

    Hello

If you are using V7, download the patch.

Have you tried merging onto a new blank document.

  3. G'day Paul,
Thanks for the tips - will give them a try.
I haven't tried a merge as such but I can delete every single entity from
all layers in the original drawing and it still saves as a (blank sheet)
    35MB file....

And to think not long ago (V6) I was complaining about the then bloated file
size (2mb) of AS compared to the very trim (500k and less) file sizes of the
    Drafix product!

    Cheers

Have you tried doing File-Save As and then using a different file name to
    the original.

    Hello AngryofMayfair,

I have the same problem with some of my Autosketch 7-Files. If you open such an file with a text-editor (excuse my english) you can see at the end of the file a line repeating thousends of times. This is our problem. If I remove them with an editor and save the file I can't open the file with Autosketch.
Sometimes I save such an file as xxx.dxf or xxx.dwg. Subsequent I save this files alsxxx.skf. This is one way to get clean files. But you know, Autosketch and AutoCAD are not 100% compatible...

An one Question: Does this happen only with V7? Not V8 or V9?
