What do you mean by get started ???

  2. I have found info on how to create complex linetypes, but nothing
tells me the command to use to get started. Can you help me?

  4. I'm back. I have been working with the MKLTYPE and MKSHAPE utilities
and have had a little success in the fact that I have figured out how
to make a shape & I think that I might have inserted it into a
linetype, only it's kind of hard to tell because my linetype appears
as nothing but a series of dots and spaces. I have tried using
different numerical values for my scale, ect., but seem to be getting
nowhere. Do you have any more suggestions or should I just keep on
plugging in numbers? Thanks for all of your help, it's much
    appreciated.

  5. Sorry to be such a bother but,how do I see the definitions contained
in the ACAD.LIN file? Thanks again!

  6. Open it with a text editor.

  7. Thanks, I'm in, but no matter what numbers I punch in I get nothing
but a line of dots & spaces. I have tried matching numbers to an
AutoCAD complex linetype but that doesn't seem to matter. If I put in
bigger numbers, the dots get closer together but I get no lines and my
shape file does not appear at all. Any suggestions on what I may be
    doing wrong?

  8. Sorry, I don't understand. Use more prepositional phrases in your sentences.

  9. OK, here's my .lin file:

    A,6.35,-2.54,[REMC3,ltypeshp.shx,x=-2.54,s=.1],-2.54,25.4

Here is what the linetype is *supposed* to look like:

    ----||||----||||----||||----||||----

I decided that the scale of my shape file may be too large and that is
why I have it set so small. I just changed that this morning to see if
it would make a difference and so far it hasn't.
Again, thanks guys so much for your help, without you, I don't know
what I would do. You have been a very big help so far & I truly
appreciate all of the assistance that you have given me and hope that
others appreciate you just as much.

  10. A few things:

Are you SURE the shape has been added to the shape file, and that the shape
file was COMPILED? We should have a look at your shape file. (uncompiled)

Your line starts off with a 6.35 segment, leaves a 2.54 gap, inserts a
shape, leaves another 2.54 gap, and then ends with a 25.4 segment which will
lead to a 31.75 segment between gaps after the first one. Is this what you
    want?

What is your linetype scale? Your shape might be so big that you have to
draw a huge mammoth line to see even one of them, or it may be so small that
    it looks like a dot.

  11. Here is my linetype shape file:

    *135,86,REMC3
    4,133,4,75,3,174,3,64,002,9,(115,64),(0,0),001,9,(0,-127),(0,-1),(0,0),002,9,(-76,127),(-1,1),(0,0),001,9,(0,-127),(0,-1)
    (0,0),002,9,(39,127),(0,1),(0,0),001,9,(0,-127),(0,-1),(0,0),002,9,(-76,127),(-1,1),(0,0),001,9,(0,-127),(0,-1),(0,0)
    002,9,(0,64),(0,0),001,4,64,4,174,3,75,3,133,0

I looked at the compiled file & it does have one for the REMC3
linetype shape file. I can send you a copy of the characters if you
    want.

My linetype scale is 3200. I am working on a drawing that is 14,000' X
8,897'. I work for an electric company putting their mylars & scanned
drawings of powerlines to AutoCAD, among any other CAD work they can
    throw at me.

  12. IINM, there are multipliers in that shape. It's too complex for me to go
into today, but 3200 is a big LTSCALE. Why don't you try changing it to
something quite a bit smaller and see if your shape shows up at some point?

  13. Well, I started out with a LTSCALE of 1, which gave me a straight
line, and when up in increments of 5 from there. At LTSCALE 20 I
started getting a row of dots really close together. As I went up in
scale, the dots spread farther apart. No shape, no lines. It's almost
2:30 in the morning here. I'll try again tomorrow. Thanks again for
    all of your help.

  14. Yes, I did create the shape with MKSHAPE, & it is a ltypeshp.shx file.
I made an AutoCAD drawing, then used the MKSHAPE command in the
Express tools, & it is now a ltypeshp.shx file. Sorry to disagree.

  15. There shouldn't be more than one ltypeshp.sh(p/x). The line code you posted
was from a file named ltypeshp.shp? Either way, it seems quite heavy for a
bunch of parallel lines. One simple shape repeated outta do it.

  16. Oh.

Have you tried just inserting the shape into the drawing to PROVE that it's
    definition is valid?

If it does, try an astronomical LTSCALE and look at your line.

  17. Well, that was it! I have already tried the astronomical LTSCALE &
that didn't make a difference. BUT, when I tried to insert the shape
file into the drawing, I got a message box that said that the shape
was an INVALID OR UNSUPPORTED IMAGE FILE. So, I guess that means that
I need to start over on my shape. I supposed I would be much better
off not using an AutoCAD dwg.

    Thanks again for your help,

  18. There was a file named ltypeshp.shp and one named ltypeshp.shx. The
one I posted was from the .shp file. The .shx file had code that had
complicated symbols in it, not just letters & numbers. Both were named
the REMC3 name that I had given my linetype & were the only linetypes
    contained in the files.

  19. OK, so now I'm trying to use a text file instead & I'm getting the
same results. Will it never end?

    Indeed like so

    *POWER_LINE,Power line ----||||----||||----||||----||||----||||----||||----
    A,6.54,-2.54,["||||",STANDARD,S=2.54,R=0.0,X=-0.1,Y=-1.27],-5.08
