Where could I find a Solidworks model of a child?... maybe even just
the head. (preferably for free). I've tried 3Dcontentcentral but
nothing there. Thanks.

I have never seen a free child model for designed for use in solidworks
and I think it might be hard to find one. I imagine that the best way
to get a model like this into solidworks is to import it as an IGS
NURBS surface model or a STL polygonal model. The IGS has the advantage
that you can convert it to solidworks surfaces and edited in situ.
EIther veriety of model should be avalable from most of the free 3d
content sites. 3D Cafe might be a good one to try.

I use Poser quite a bit, so I saved a Poser head and then used Blender
(Blender.org... this was recommended to me by the Maxwell Render people
for converting file types) to convert it to an STL.

The problem is that I want to produce an engineering drawing from this
STL. How can I do that?... I tried saving the STL as a part, but when I
make a drawing from this part nothing shows (the part view is placed on
the page but there is no wireframe/view there).

Hey so the problem you are coming accros is the one that I mentioned in
my previous post. If the surface information comes in as STL it can not
be edited easaly and infact has very little compatability in SolidWorks
modeling. So if you can use IGS or another NURBS exchange format then
it is likely that you will be able to edit and see the surfaces in a
drawing. I have not used Poser for a while and I do not recall if it
can do this but it is likely it will. If it can not though, you should
be able to take it to an STL then convert it to NURBS surfaces in
Blender. When I need to do something like this to a polly model I
usuall do it in Maya, first converting it to a SubD model then taking
that to NURBS and exproting the IGS. When I get it into SolidWorks I
then tend to stitch the surfaces. Because I go though the SubD
smoothing I find it helps a lot to start with a relitively low
resolution polly model, otherwise things can get a bit processor heavy.

Go to 3dContentCentral and get "Dude" you can then size the body parts
accordingly to child size. You just need to get a child to measure....

I have gone as far as to measure my clients and model them suing dude to
establish the best ergonomic fit in some cases. Measurements you need
are things like ankle joint to knee joint, elbow joint to wrist
joint.... Then overall height and width at key areas such as shoulders,
waist....

He does not have the best range of motion but the complexity and then
the file size are small so he works well. If you need more a more robust
complex figure get "Manikin" and go through the same scenario as above
in measuring.

Or have I missed the point and you need something more realistic for
rendering or graphic purposes?
